Repairing and Servicing Himoinsa Generator Sets
We repair and service Himoinsa generator sets on site across Gauteng, whichever engine and alternator the set carries. Himoinsa, a Spanish builder, assembles complete sets around engines from makers such as Yanmar, Kubota, FPT (Iveco), Doosan, Scania and Volvo, so the first step on any job is to identify the engine from its own plate before ordering filters or parts.

Who made which part of a Himoinsa set
| Part | Usually made by | What it decides |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | Usually made byYanmar or Kubota on smaller sets; FPT (Iveco), Doosan, Scania, Volvo and others on larger ones | What it decidesOil grade, filters, service schedule and the engine’s protection senders |
| Alternator | Usually made byMecc Alte or another specialist maker | What it decidesAVR type, excitation, bearings and winding repairs |
| Controller | Usually made byHimoinsa | What it decidesStart mode, protection limits, timers and mains sensing |
| Canopy, base frame and tank | Usually made byHimoinsa | What it decidesFuel capacity, spill containment, sound insulation and air paths |
On many models the letters before the size hint at the engine, as with HYW sets and their Yanmar engines, but sets with similar names from different years can still differ. The data plate settles it.
Which Himoinsa panel does your set have?
| Panel type | How it works | Where faults usually are |
|---|---|---|
| Manual | How it worksStarted and stopped by an operator at the panel | Where faults usually areStart circuit, emergency stop, protection shutdowns |
| Automatic start | How it worksStarts on a remote signal, such as a separate mains monitor or a building system | Where faults usually areRemote start wiring, controller mode, battery |
| Automatic with changeover | How it worksWatches the mains, starts the set and transfers the load | Where faults usually areMains sensing, contactors or motorised switch, timers |
When a Himoinsa set did not come on
- 01
Panel mode and emergency stop
An automatic panel left in manual or off, or a set stopped with the emergency stop, will not start on mains failure.
- 02
Alarm history
The controller logs what stopped the set. A low oil pressure or high temperature shutdown points somewhere very different from a failed start.
- 03
Battery and charger
A set on standby depends on its battery charger, and a weak battery is one of the commonest reasons a set will not crank.
- 04
Start signal and changeover
On automatic sets, faulty mains sensing or changeover wiring leaves a healthy set waiting for a signal that never comes.
- 05
Fuel, air and engine
Only once the controls and power supply are proved do we move to the fuel system and engine, using the engine maker’s figures.
Service points
Looking after a Himoinsa set
Parts for the engine fitted: Generator servicing
Oil, filters and belts follow the engine fitted, not the Himoinsa model name. We order them from the engine plate, as genuine parts or matching quality equivalents.
Alternator and AVR: AVR repairs
Voltage faults trace to the AVR, exciter or rotating diodes, and parts follow the alternator maker rather than Himoinsa.
Sound-attenuated canopies: Overheating
Damaged acoustic lining, blocked air paths and failed door seals raise both temperature and noise.
Base tanks and bunding: Leaks
Base-frame tanks need water and sediment drained. A bund holds spills and rainwater, and must be emptied rather than left to overflow.
Panel settings after repairs: Control panel repairs
Protection limits and timers are checked against the set’s rating and the site’s needs after any repair.
Servicing by duty, not by name
A Himoinsa set on prime power at a site is serviced by running hours; a standby set at a building is serviced by time as well, because it may only run a few hours between services. Both follow the schedule of the engine fitted, which is why two Himoinsa sets of the same size can need different filters and intervals.
Routine servicing covers the engine, cooling, fuel, battery and controller, and a maintenance plan keeps those visits on schedule. For a breakdown, our generator repairs team comes to the set.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which engine my Himoinsa generator has?
Check the data plate on the engine itself, or the set’s documentation. A photo of the plate is enough for us to identify it.
Is Himoinsa connected to Yanmar?
Himoinsa is part of the Yanmar group, and many smaller Himoinsa sets carry Yanmar engines. Larger sets use engines from other makers, so check the plate.
Can an automatic changeover be added to a manual Himoinsa set?
Usually, with a suitable controller and changeover panel. It is electrical installation work that must comply with the wiring regulations; see generator installation.
Are parts available for Himoinsa generators?
Engine and alternator spares are usually the easiest, because those makers’ parts are widely stocked. Controller boards, canopy panels and tank parts are specific to Himoinsa, so we look them up from the set’s nameplate and give you a realistic lead time with the quote.
