We repair and service generators at homes and businesses across Soweto, from Orlando and Diepkloof to Protea Glen, Dobsonville and Pimville. Repair first
Fixing petrol and small diesel generators properly
A portable generator that has stopped is often worth repairing. Carburettors can be cleaned or rebuilt, spark plugs, recoil starters and fuel taps replaced, and the alternator’s brushes, AVR or capacitor changed. On small air-cooled diesels the usual work is fuel filters, injectors, valve clearances and the starting system, recoil or electric, including the battery on electric-start models.
We quote before any work starts, and if a unit is not worth repairing we say so and explain why. Our guide to repairing or replacing a generator shows how we weigh it up.

Local generators
Who relies on generators in Soweto
Homes: Residential generator services
A petrol or inverter unit for lights, TV, phones and the fridge, or a small diesel set wired in through a changeover.
Spaza and tuck shops: kVA sizing guide
Fridges, freezers, lights and card machines that cannot stop for an outage, so the generator’s size matters most.
Taverns and shisa nyamas: Generator servicing
Long evenings on generator power for fridges, sound and lights, which bring the next service forward.
Churches: Voltage problems
Sound systems, lighting and instruments during services, where a steady voltage protects the equipment.
Schools, crèches and clinics: Generator maintenance
Lights, computers, pumps and security on a set that runs rarely, then refuses to start.
Salons, car washes and workshops: Commercial generator services
Hair dryers, pressure washers, compressors and welders, whose loads need a set sized to match.
Power cuts and long running hours
Much of Soweto is supplied directly by Eskom, so for many households Eskom’s load-shedding schedule is the one to follow, not City Power’s. Outages also come from cable theft, transformer and substation faults and storm damage, and these can last far longer than a load-shedding slot, so a generator that runs most evenings piles up hours quickly.
Small air-cooled engines hold little oil and run hot, so check the oil with the engine stopped before every long run, and keep the air filter clean in the dry, dusty months. Our servicing covers the oil, the filters, the spark plug on a petrol unit or the injector on a diesel, and an output check.
Soweto is part of our Johannesburg service region, next to Roodepoort beyond Dobsonville. Schools, churches and businesses that cannot be without power can keep their set tested on a maintenance plan; for a set that has already failed, see generator repairs.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you come out to Soweto?
Yes, to homes, shops, churches and businesses across Soweto. Free callouts and quotations, so you know the cost before any work starts.
Can you fix my small petrol generator?
Yes. Starting problems, surging, smoke and dead sockets are usually repairable on site. Tell us the make and model, or send a photo of the label, when you call.
Can a generator run the fridges in my shop?
Yes, if it can carry their starting load as well as their running load. Switch them on one at a time, and ask us to check the size if the set trips or the lights dim when a compressor starts. Low voltage can damage fridge compressors. See the kVA sizing guide.
How often should I service a generator I run every day?
Mostly by running hours. The manual gives an hours interval and a time interval, whichever comes first, and a set used every day reaches its hours long before the date. Use the hour meter or keep a simple log; a set used through every outage may need servicing several times a year.
