Generator Repairs, Servicing and Maintenance in Germiston
We repair, service and maintain generators on site across Germiston, from the large standby sets in Wadeville, Germiston South, Driehoek and Elandsfontein to home generators in Primrose, Lambton and Elspark. Germiston is one of the oldest industrial towns on the East Rand, so older engines and panels often run alongside modern controllers, and we repair both. We Service & Repair All Generator Brands.

Rail and industry
A railway town with heavy industry
Germiston has been one of South Africa’s busiest railway junctions since the gold-rush years, and industry grew up along the lines. Its industrial areas, Wadeville, Germiston South, Driehoek and Elandsfontein, hold foundries, engineering and fabrication works, warehouses and distribution centres, and that is where the larger generators are. Add aviation businesses at Rand Airport, town-centre offices and older suburbs, and Germiston has almost every kind of generator site.
For these businesses a power cut stops more than the lights. Welders, compressors, cranes and conveyors halt, server rooms and cold stores start warming up, and alarm systems fall back to their batteries. A standby set that starts when the mains fails, carries the essential circuits for the whole outage and hands back cleanly is what keeps them working, whether the cause is load shedding, a substation fault or stolen cable.
Germiston sits at the western end of the Ekurhuleni metro, between Johannesburg, Edenvale, Boksburg and Alberton, and we cover all of them.
Older installations
Long-established plants with ageing panels
Many Germiston firms have occupied the same premises for decades, and so have their generators. The diesel engine and alternator are often still sound, but the equipment around them ages faster: relay-logic panels, controllers whose spares are no longer made, changeover contactors with burnt contacts, and wiring made brittle by years of heat inside the canopy.
Where a part is obsolete, we can usually fit a modern controller, such as a DSE, ComAp or SmartGen module, configured for the existing engine and alternator, with new sensors where the old senders cannot be matched. The set keeps its proven engine and gains clear alarms, an event log and dependable auto-start, often for much less than a new generator. See control panel repairs and our guide to whether to repair or replace an older set.
- Relay panels and obsolete controllers replaced
- Changeover contactors and mains sensing tested
- Old alternator windings checked for insulation breakdown
- Starting batteries and chargers renewed

Industrial callouts
How a callout to a Germiston factory runs
- 01
Tell us about the site
Send the make, kVA rating and hour-meter reading, a photo of the controller screen, and any induction, PPE or permit-to-work requirements. Those details often tell us which parts to bring.
- 02
Diagnosis on site
We read the controller’s alarm history, check the battery, fuel, cooling and charging systems, and test the alternator output and the changeover before naming a cause.
- 03
A quote before any work
You receive a quotation and decide what goes ahead. Free callouts and quotations.
- 04
Repair with the set isolated
The generator is isolated and the changeover locked out while we work, at a time agreed around your shifts, so the plant is not left without a working standby for longer than it has to be.
- 05
Proved under load
Afterwards we run the set and test the transfer on the plant load, or with a load bank test arranged for sites that cannot be switched over, and talk you through what was found and done.
Beyond the industrial areas
Homes, shops and smaller sites
Homes with portable sets: Residential generator services
Many households in established suburbs such as Primrose, Lambton and Dinwiddie keep a portable petrol or small diesel unit for the essentials. Carburettors gummed up by stale petrol and starting faults after months in the garage are typical repairs.
Homes with automatic standby: Standby generators
Family homes in Elspark, Delville, Klippoortje and elsewhere run silent diesel standby sets with automatic changeovers. A weak starting battery, a failed charger or old fuel is a frequent reason they refuse to start when the power goes.
Katlehong shops and workshops: Commercial generator services
Butcheries, salons, spaza shops and workshops depend on fridges, freezers and tools. A generator sized for the starting load and serviced on time protects stock and trading hours.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you work in Wadeville, Driehoek and the other industrial areas?
Yes. Tell us about site inductions, PPE and permits when you book, and we plan the work around your production and shift changes.
Our generator is decades old. Is it worth repairing?
Often, yes. Heavy-duty engines and alternators can give many more years once the controls, wiring, cooling and fuel system are put right. If the cost of repairs approaches the price of a replacement, we say so.
The generator runs but the building stays dark. What is wrong?
Either the changeover is not transferring, because of a failed contactor, a tripped output breaker or a mains-sensing fault, or the alternator is producing no voltage, often from a failed AVR or lost excitation. If the controller shows output voltage, the problem is downstream of the set. Do not try to force the changeover; call us. See running but no power and changeover and ATS problems.
Can you look after our site generators on a schedule?
Yes. A maintenance programme plans servicing, inspections and load tests around the hours your sets run, so faults are found before the next outage finds them.
Do you cover Katlehong and the southern suburbs?
Yes, along with Elspark, Elsburg, Rondebult and the rest of Germiston. We come to you, and the work is done where the generator stands.
