Generator Repairs, Servicing and Maintenance in Alberton
We repair, service and maintain generators on site across Alberton: production and warehouse sets in Alrode, standby sets on the Meyersdal estates, home generators in Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, New Redruth and Randhart, and the units that keep shops in the town centre and Thokoza trading. A factory set and a home standby unit fail in different ways, so we diagnose each on its own terms and quote before any work starts.

Four kinds of generator site in Alberton
Alrode factories and warehouses: Industrial generator services
Standby and prime-power sets carrying production lines, compressors, cold rooms and offices, with motor loads that test the governor and AVR every time they start.
Meyersdal estate homes: Standby generators
Silent diesel standby sets with automatic changeovers, placed to meet estate rules on noise, exhaust direction and appearance, often on steep stands.
Family suburbs: Residential generator services
Petrol, inverter and small diesel generators in Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, Randhart and New Redruth, many worked hard through load shedding and then left standing for months.
Shops and practices: Commercial generator services
Retailers around the town centre and in Thokoza, and medical and professional practices, that need refrigeration, lighting, tills and computers to keep working.

Industry
Production sites in Alrode
For a factory, an outage costs more than lost output: machines stopped mid-cycle can mean scrapped product and a slow restart. A standby set cannot prevent that first stop, because it needs several seconds to start and transfer, so processes that must never stop need a UPS as well. What the set can do is turn a long outage into a short interruption, but only if it can accept the plant’s load when it arrives all at once.
Motors are the hard part. A large motor draws several times its running current while it starts, pulling the generator’s voltage and frequency down. A turbocharged engine also needs a moment for its turbo to build boost, which limits how big a step it can take. If the AVR and governor recover too slowly, contactors drop out, drives trip and the line stops anyway. We look at what the set really has to carry, test how it responds to load steps, and recommend staging large motors so they do not all start together.
Where a plant cannot be shut down to prove its generator, a load bank test checks the set at its rated output while production stays on the mains.
- Motor starting and load steps assessed
- AVR and governor response checked
- Load bank testing arranged and quoted per site
- Maintenance visits planned around production
Keeping an estate standby set ready
Meyersdal’s sloping stands and estate rules affect where a generator stands and how we reach it. These are the points we check on an estate home set, and the ones owners can keep an eye on between visits.
- The set stands level on a solid base, with its oil and fuel drains reachable; on a sloping stand that usually means a built-up plinth.
- Air can flow freely in and out of the canopy, clear of retaining walls and planting, so it does not overheat on a long run.
- The exhaust discharges away from windows, patios and the neighbouring stand, within the estate’s rules.
- The automatic changeover moves the house to the generator and back to the mains cleanly, and its start delay rides through brief dips. See changeover and ATS problems.
- The scheduled exercise run really happens: glance at the hour meter or run log now and then to confirm it.
- The starting battery and charger are healthy, because a weak battery is one of the commonest reasons a standby set fails to start.
- The fuel tank is topped up after long outages, not left low for months, which lets condensation form.
When you book, tell us the estate’s access arrangements, such as contractor registration, gate codes or permitted working hours.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you work at factories in Alrode?
Yes. Tell us about inductions, permits and production windows when you book. Much of the work can be done while the plant stays on the mains.
Do you service home generators in Meyersdal?
Yes, including standby sets with automatic changeovers. Let us know the estate’s access arrangements and where the generator stands, and send a photo of the controller screen if it shows an alarm.
My generator dips or stalls when the pump or compressor starts. Why?
The motor’s starting current is more than the set can supply, or the governor and AVR respond too slowly. It may be a sizing issue or a fault, and we test which. See frequency and speed problems and the kVA sizing guide.
Do I need a once-off service or a maintenance plan?
A once-off service suits a home set that runs a few hours a month. A factory set that must start every time is better on a maintenance programme with scheduled visits and load testing. Faults found along the way are repaired once you approve the quote.
