Generator Repairs in Chartwell, From Borehole Plots to Riding Yards
We repair generators across Chartwell’s agricultural holdings: borehole sets on smallholdings, standby sets at large homes on plots, and the bigger sets behind riding yards, guesthouses, conference venues and plant nurseries. Technicians are on site in 1–2 hours and repair the set where it stands.

Generators we work on across the Chartwell holdings
Smallholdings with boreholes: Voltage problems
One set carries the house and the borehole pump in an outage, often from a shed well away from the house.
Horse-riding and equestrian yards: Overheating
Water for the horses, yard lights and security hang on the set, while arena dust settles on its radiator.
Guesthouses and B&Bs: ATS and changeover problems
Guests notice an outage at once; the set carries rooms, kitchen and lights through an automatic changeover.
Conference venues: Commercial generator services
Three-phase sets behind kitchens, lighting and sound, where a trip mid-function empties the room.
Plant nurseries and agri-businesses: Industrial generator services
Sets behind irrigation pumps and sheds; every motor start tests how well the set holds voltage and speed.
Large homes on plots: Standby generators
Silent diesel standby sets in Chartwell North and Chartwell Country Estates, sometimes on a long cable run.
Repairs
Generator faults we fix in Chartwell
Battery and charging faults: Battery not charging
Chargers, charge alternators and batteries that cannot crank the set when the mains fails.
AVR and voltage faults: Voltage problems
Low, high or swinging voltage from the AVR, exciter or rotating diodes.
Fuel and injector faults: Fuel system repairs
Contaminated diesel, blocked filters, air in the lines, lift pumps and injectors.
Generator won’t start: Generator not starting
Flat batteries, failed chargers, stale fuel and starter faults, fixed on site.
Overheating
Shutdowns from blocked radiators, failed fans, thermostats and coolant leaks.
ATS and changeover problems
The set runs but the building stays dark, or the load never returns to the mains.
Local conditions
Big plots, boreholes and the pump that trips the set
Chartwell has no modern sewerage network, which has kept it low-density: plots are large, houses far apart and many rely on a borehole. The generator often lives in a shed or beside the pump house, a long cable run from its board.
A borehole pump starting on generator power briefly draws several times its running current. A set with little kVA in hand, a lazy AVR or a worn governor lets the voltage sag, and pump or set trips. We measure that start before blaming either.
- Pump starting current measured against the set’s kVA
- Cable run and earthing from shed to board inspected
Response
On site in Chartwell in 1–2 hours
Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7. Cedar Avenue, called Cedar Road on many maps, runs through Chartwell and divides Chartwell North Estates from Chartwell Country Estates, so we reach a plot from the Fourways or Lanseria side. A dropped pin beats a plot number; say which gate to use and whether dogs or horses are loose.
While you wait, read the controller screen, check the diesel level and that nobody has pressed the emergency stop. Two failed starts are enough; more only flattens the battery. Changeover, fuel lines and pump wiring are for the technician. WhatsApp the nameplate and screen; emergency generator repair explains night calls.

Makes we repair on Chartwell plots
We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. Homes on the plots mostly run silent diesels from Bundu Power, Kipor, Pramac or Mac Afric on a SmartGen or Deep Sea Electronics module. Venues, nurseries and agri-businesses run three-phase sets on Perkins, Cummins, Deutz or Kubota engines with Stamford, Leroy-Somer or Mecc Alte alternators; we also repair the petrol portables kept as a spare for the pump. See our brand pages.
Prevention
The second breakdown on a Chartwell plot, and how to avoid it
Repeat calls on the holdings come down to a few causes: a new battery under the hot-shed charger that cooked the last one, a pump start never checked against the set’s kVA, a wet drum refilling the tank. We fix the fault and list what will cause the next.
Servicing breaks that chain. The Chartwell generator service and maintenance page covers borehole sets, yards, guesthouses and venues, and how a heavy load-shedding month moves the next date. Generator repairs explains how we trace a fault; the same crews attend breakdowns in Fourways, Lanseria and Cosmo City, across Johannesburg North and the Johannesburg hub.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Our borehole pump trips the generator every time it starts. Can you fix that?
Usually. We meter the pump’s starting current against the set’s kVA and test the AVR and governor under that load. The cure may be a repair, a soft starter or a larger set; we say which.
Can you repair our conference venue’s generator before a function?
Yes. We work 24/7, so the repair and a load run can be booked for the night before a function, with the changeover proved before guests arrive.
Dust from our riding arena keeps reaching the generator. Is that why it overheats?
Often. Dust and chaff packed into the radiator fins and air filter cut the cooling, so the set shuts down on temperature in a long summer outage. We clean both and test the fan and thermostat.
We run a portable generator for the borehole when the power goes. Is that safe?
Yes, if it runs outdoors, away from doors and windows, and feeds the pump through a changeover an electrician has fitted. Never plug it into a wall socket.
