What makes the south of the city its own place

Johannesburg South begins at the edge of the CBD, where Selby adjoins Marshalltown. An older industrial belt runs south-west through Ophirton and Booysens to Ormonde, Nasrec and Aeroton, and to the east City Deep holds Transnet’s inland container terminal, the Joburg Market and cold stores and transport yards near the M2, N17 and N3. A generator here is usually a three-phase set carrying refrigeration, compressors or floodlights through every outage.

South of the industry, still north of the N12 Southern Bypass, Rosettenville, Turffontein and their neighbours are mostly houses on small stands and blocks of flats, with shops on the main roads, so a fixed set squeezes into a passage and many homes and shops run a portable. Across the bypass, Mondeor borders the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, and Glenvista, Bassonia and Mulbarton are large homes, estates and security complexes, where a set waits behind an estate gate.

Servicing and maintenance across Johannesburg South

Generator servicing matters most where a set works hardest. A City Deep cold store may run its set through every slot of a load-shedding month, so the hour meter sets the next oil change. Load shedding, on City Power’s or Eskom’s own schedule, and long local outages both bring that date forward. A Bassonia home set barely runs, yet its fuel and battery still age.

A maintenance plan suits the mix: fuel sampling for City Deep’s cold stores and yards, visits inside the permit window for the Ormonde and Aeroton works, body-corporate plans for Mondeor and Rosettenville complexes, and loaded test runs for diesel generators at Glenvista and Bassonia homes.

Getting there

On site across Johannesburg South

The M2, N17 and N3 serve City Deep, the N1 Western Bypass and Rand Show Road reach Aeroton, and the N12 Southern Bypass and Golden Highway cross the suburbs. Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7.

Access varies: a transport yard may need an induction or permit, a plant room needs its keyholder, and a Bassonia estate or Mondeor complex needs a gate code from the resident or trustee.

Send a photo of the nameplate, controller and hour meter. Until we arrive, check only fuel, main breaker and emergency stop; changeover, fuel and electrical work is ours. At night, see emergency generator repair.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Booysens on the City Deep pages or the Ormonde ones?

The Ormonde ones: Booysens sits with Selby, Ophirton and Aeroton on the Ormonde and Aeroton repairs page. City Deep, Denver and Cleveland have their own, and Turffontein is on the Mondeor and Rosettenville pages.

Do you work on cold-store and depot generators in City Deep?

Yes: refrigeration and transport-yard sets are much of the south’s industrial work. We sample bulk fuel, measure starting loads and test the changeover; see the City Deep repairs page and industrial generator services.

Can one plan cover our sets at several southern sites?

Yes. A group with a City Deep cold store and Rosettenville shops, or a managing agent with Mondeor complexes, can put every set on one maintenance plan, each serviced by its own hour meter and reported site by site.

Our generator stopped hours into a long outage. What now?

Check the fuel, the main breaker and the controller screen, then stop cranking, which flattens the battery. Photograph the alarm and call us, 24/7; generator repairs explains how we trace the fault.

Is the callout free, and do you repair every make?

Free callouts and quotations: the visit and the quote cost nothing, and we start only once you approve it. We Service & Repair All Generator Brands, from the canopied diesels at an Aeroton works to a Bassonia standby set or a Turffontein shop’s portable.
