Routine servicing in Mondeor and Rosettenville

Servicing

What a generator service in Mondeor and Rosettenville includes

Here a service is booked through trustees, a shop owner or a school bursar as often as a homeowner, and most sets have stood for weeks: battery, charger and stored fuel come first, and a passage set’s airflow is checked.

  • Engine oil and filter, with the fuel, air and water-separator filters
  • Coolant level and condition, radiator, hoses and belts
  • Starting battery load-tested, charger output and terminals checked
  • Fuel system checked for leaks, water and contamination, tank to injectors
  • Alternator, AVR, output connections and earthing checked
  • Controller settings, alarms and hour meter recorded
  • Test run under load: voltage, frequency and temperatures
  • Changeover (ATS) operation confirmed where fitted

You get a written record of what was done and found. The full list is in our service checklist; generator servicing explains the work and a maintenance plan keeps it on schedule.

Intervals

Service intervals for sets in Mondeor and Rosettenville

The manual gives an interval in running hours and in months; whichever comes first sets the date. A shop set running every trading-hours slot reaches its hours within months, while a gate set goes by the calendar.
Service intervals for sets in Mondeor and Rosettenville
The setHow it runs hereNext service due
Complex gate setHow it runs hereEach outage, on gate, guardhouse and lightsNext service dueYearly at least, with a loaded run
Shop or centre setHow it runs hereEvery slot in trading hoursNext service dueBy hour meter, often within months
Home standby setHow it runs hereEach outage plus a weekly testNext service dueYearly, sooner after a long spell of outages
PortableHow it runs hereWheeled out per outage, stored with fuel in itNext service dueOil by the manual’s hours; old petrol drained
School, church or plot setHow it runs hereSeldom, then for hours at a timeNext service dueBy the calendar: battery and fuel age standing

The service intervals guide reads the hour meter against the manual; wet stacking explains why a lightly loaded diesel suffers.

Illustration of one day with two power cuts of two and a half hours each, at 06:00 and 18:00, while the generator runs. That is 5 running hours a day, about 35 a week and about 150 a month, and 2 starts and changeovers a day, 14 a week and about 60 a month. A service measured in running hours falls due in months rather than a year, and every start works the battery, charger, starter and changeover. Prevention

What a service here catches before the outage does

Most breakdowns here give notice. A charger drifting high shows on a meter before it boils a gate set’s battery, stale petrol is drained before it gums a carburettor, and a passage set running warm shows on the test, not halfway through an evening outage.

If the set has already stopped, the Mondeor and Rosettenville generator repairs page covers the faults we fix most. We run the same plans for neighbours in City Deep, Ormonde and Aeroton and Glenvista and Bassonia, and for sites throughout the Johannesburg hub.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can our complex’s gate set be serviced without locking residents in or out?

Yes. The work is done with the complex on mains; only the loaded run and transfer test put the gate on the set, for a few minutes the trustees choose, with the guardhouse told first.

Is it worth servicing a portable we only use during load shedding?

Yes. A portable left standing with petrol in it is the one that will not start. A service changes the oil, cleans the air filter and plug, drains old fuel and checks the output under load.

How often should a church or school generator be serviced if it hardly runs?

Yearly at least, by the calendar rather than the hour meter: batteries, coolant and stored diesel age while the set stands. A monthly test run between services proves it will start.

Do you service generators on plots in Kibler Park?

Yes. Give us the plot number, the person with the gate key and what the set powers. We work 24/7, so a visit can be set for when someone is home.
