Generators we work on in Pretoria Moot
Older homes on big stands: Residential generator services
Silent diesels at the back of the yard in Villieria, Rietondale and Waverley, often a long cable run from the board.
Portables in the garage: Portable and inverter generators
Petrol and small diesel sets wheeled out for an outage, then stored for weeks with fuel still in the tank.
Small complexes and flats: Standby generators
One shared set for the gate, lights and sometimes a pump, looked after by trustees or an agent.
Schools: Commercial generator services
Standby sets carrying offices, gates and classrooms through a school-day outage, idle all holiday.
Churches and halls: Diesel generators
Sets that carry a Sunday service or an evening meeting, then stand still the rest of the week.
Gezina and Capital Park businesses: Industrial generator services
Corner shops, small centres and workshops on the main roads, where fridges, tills and motors share one set.
Repairs
Generator faults we fix in Pretoria Moot
Battery and charging faults: Battery not charging
Chargers, charge alternators and batteries that cannot crank the set when the mains fails.
Generator won’t start: Generator not starting
Flat batteries, failed chargers, stale fuel and starter faults, fixed on site.
ATS and changeover problems
The set runs but the building stays dark, or the load never returns to the mains.
Fuel and injector faults: Fuel system repairs
Contaminated diesel, blocked filters, air in the lines, lift pumps and injectors.
AVR and voltage faults: Voltage problems
Low, high or swinging voltage from the AVR, exciter or rotating diodes.
Overheating
Shutdowns from blocked radiators, failed fans, thermostats and coolant leaks.
Older houses
A newer generator on an older Moot house
Most Moot homes are free-standing houses on larger stands, so the generator usually arrived long after the house: on a slab by the boundary wall or behind the garage. That means a long cable run and a changeover added to a board never planned for one.
Faults here often sit between set and house rather than in the engine: a loose changeover termination, a thin cable dropping the voltage under load, or a poor earth. We trace the whole run, not just the set.
- Changeover and board connections tested
- Voltage measured at the house and at the set
- Exhaust direction checked against windows and walls

Response
On site in Pretoria Moot in 1–2 hours
Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7. The Moot is a valley just north of the city centre, between a ridge to the south and the Magaliesberg to the north, with Gezina and Capital Park on the routes out of the CBD. Tell us who opens the gate and where on the stand the set stands.
Until we arrive, look only at the fuel gauge, the main breaker, the emergency stop and the controller display, and leave the start button after two tries so the battery keeps some charge. A portable stays outdoors, clear of windows, and never feeds a wall socket. Emergency generator repair covers night calls.
Every make
Makes we fix in the Moot
We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. Behind Moot houses we mostly find silent diesels from Bundu Power, Kipor and Mac Afric, and petrol portables on Honda engines. Complexes, schools, churches and workshops tend to run bigger diesels on Perkins or Cummins engines, with Mecc Alte or Stamford alternators and SmartGen or Deep Sea Electronics controllers.
Prevention
Why Moot generators break down a second time
A second callout in the Moot usually means the cause outlived the repair. A battery replaced while the charger stays faulty is flat by the next outage; a hot changeover termination at an old board loosens again unless it is remade; a church set filled from a dirty container clogs its filter again.
A service plan breaks the pattern. Our Pretoria Moot generator service and maintenance page sets out a visit to a home, complex, school or workshop. Generator repairs explains our fault-finding; we also attend breakdowns in the Pretoria CBD, Silverton and Annlin and Wonderboom, and across the Pretoria hub.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The lights in our Villieria house flicker when the generator runs. Why?
Often a long or undersized cable from the back of the stand, a loose changeover termination or an AVR fault. We measure voltage at the set and at the house to find which, then repair it.
Can you repair our school’s generator in the Moot during the holidays?
Yes. We work 24/7, so the repair can be booked for a holiday, a weekend or after school, with the caretaker at the gate. The set goes back to automatic before term.
Our church generator failed on a Sunday. Do you come out at weekends?
Yes. A set that runs once a week usually fails on its battery, charger or fuel. We find which, repair it and run it under the church’s own load so it is ready for next Sunday.
My workshop in Gezina trips the generator when the compressor starts. Can you fix that?
Usually. A motor draws several times its running current to start, so the set may be too small, the AVR slow or the engine short of fuel. We test it under the real load and tell you which.
