Servicing

What a generator service in Wynberg and Marlboro includes

Here a service usually happens in a yard or behind a roller door, before the machines start or after they stop, and gives time to the fuel the set is filled from, the load on each phase and the changeover.

  • Engine oil and filter, with the fuel, air and water-separator filters
  • Coolant level and condition, radiator, hoses and belts
  • Starting battery load-tested, charger output and terminals checked
  • Fuel system checked for leaks, water and contamination, tank to injectors
  • Alternator, AVR, output connections and earthing checked
  • Controller settings, alarms and hour meter recorded
  • Test run under load: voltage, frequency and temperatures
  • Changeover (ATS) operation confirmed where fitted

You get a written record of what was done and found. The full list is in our service checklist; generator servicing explains the work and a maintenance plan keeps it on schedule.

Intervals

How often a Wynberg or Marlboro set needs a service

A service falls due at the engine manual’s interval, by running hours or time, whichever comes first. Here the load and the outages decide which: a month of load shedding at two or three slots a day can use a whole hours interval.
How often a Wynberg or Marlboro set needs a service
SetHow it runsWhich interval decides
Workshop or factory setHow it runsEvery outage in working hours, under motor loadsWhich interval decidesHours in a heavy month, with a loaded run
Warehouse setHow it runsThrough loading shifts and into the nightWhich interval decidesHours during load shedding, the calendar in a quiet season
Panel beater setHow it runsShort, heavy runs under the booth and compressorWhich interval decidesHours and starts; air filter and radiator checked every visit
Trade counter or print shop setHow it runsA few hours a week, often lightly loadedWhich interval decidesTime first: at least once a year, watched for wet stacking

The service intervals guide dates the next visit from the meter; wet stacking covers light running.

Illustration of one day with two power cuts of two and a half hours each, at 06:00 and 18:00, while the generator runs. That is 5 running hours a day, about 35 a week and about 150 a month, and 2 starts and changeovers a day, 14 a week and about 60 a month. A service measured in running hours falls due in months rather than a year, and every start works the battery, charger, starter and changeover. Prevention

Faults a Wynberg and Marlboro service finds early

Most breakdowns on these stands give warning first. An AVR running hot under an unbalanced load shows on a meter at a service, water in a drum is found before it reaches the injection pump, and a changeover contact that chatters on test is replaced while the mains is still on.

If the set has already stopped, our Wynberg and Marlboro generator repairs page covers the faults we fix most here and what to send. We run the same plans in Linbro Park, Sandton and Sunninghill and Woodmead, and throughout the Sandton hub’s areas.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you service our workshop generator without stopping the machines?

Mostly. The engine work is done on mains with the set isolated; only the transfer test and loaded run move the machines onto the generator, booked for a break or after closing.

Our landlord owns the generator but we buy the diesel. Who should book the service?

Usually the owner, because the plan covers the set and changeover. A tenant can book too; the report records the fuel found, the phase loads and anything needing the owner’s decision.

How many hours does load shedding add to a warehouse set?

Count it: two slots a day of two to four hours each, over thirty days, comes to 120 to 240 hours, more than some manuals allow between oil changes. Read the meter after every heavy month.

Does a panel beater’s generator need anything extra at a service?

Sanding dust and overspray load the air filter and radiator fins, so both are cleaned or replaced, and the visit ends with a run under the compressor and booth fans to prove the set still takes the start.

Do you service the small silent diesel behind our trade counter?

Yes. We Service & Repair All Generator Brands, from a small silent diesel to a large three-phase set; a seldom-run set gets the battery, fuel and changeover checks that matter most.
